About Ssengoba Stephen (Founder)

Ssengoba Stephen was born in a poor family with alcoholism and other evils. He is the youngest of four boys.

His Dad was an alcoholic that couldn’t take the responsibility of being a father and he didn’t educate any of his boys. In this situation his mum struggled and she took the best care of her boys that she possibly could. When he was two years old, she used to leave him home alone with his brothers so she could go look for food.

When his dad would come home from the bars drunk, he used to beat his mum which became an every day occurence. All the food ran out, and his mum, neglected, tired, grew weary of the home situation. When he was five years old, life was so terrible that his mum deserted them.

Seven Years Old & His Dad Remarried

Steven’s dad remarried and she moved in when he was seven years old. Stephen recalls, ”My step mum was not good to me and would push me around. All I could think about was my real mum. I remember crying and thinking of her all the time.

Why did she leave me here? I would go two days without eating anything- life was so hard and I did not understand why this was happening to me. I thought of killing myself because I saw myself as useless in this world, at only 7 years old, but I thank God because I did not, as there are children who need help and that’s why I am still alive.”

Stephen Turns To The Streets

So he went into town, no relatives to live with. He saw fellow young boys and girls on the streets of the road playing and he got interested in what they were playing. They saw him looking around the corner and so they invited him to play with them.

When he was eight years old he lived on the streets. He slept on the streets and outside in the extreme cold. All he had to eat was dirty leftover food on rubbish pits in the town of Masaka. He did not have any hope in life and he spent five years on the street eating rotten food and rubbish that people used to throw on pits, but God didn’t let him die because He had a plan for Stephen.

He Meets Carol An Angel!

One day in the streets, there was a lady who saw him eating dirty and rotten things on pit rubbish. She looked at him for a few hours, just standing there looking.

Not bothering anyone, mindless of his own life- she called him slowly to come near her. He went to her and she asked him why he was eating on a rubbish pit. He replied that he was looking for something to eat so he could survive.

Carol told him to get into her car she took him to a nice restaurant he was dressed in dirty clothes. He scarfed down on everything as he had never eaten before in his life-Carol was shocked! She took him to a shop and bought him nice clothes and shoes.

Then she drove him to her home. After he put on his new clothes Carol told him to go look in the mirror. She asked him what he saw in the mirror, and he replied that he could see himself smart and happy!

God Had Sent An Angel!

So from that day on, she began to treat him like her own child. She promised him that he never would have to be homeless or hungry again. The next day Carol took him to school to start classes, starting with the first grade.

While he felt the shame to have to be among all the young children, but he worked hard all day and accepted studying while she paid his school fees and all the school requirements.

In the evenings, she used to call him into the dining room and she would read the Bible scriptures and she told him of how much God loves him. She read to him the scripture in the Bible that he will never forget in his life which is in John 3:16.“That for God so loved the world so much, and he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but will have eternal life.” He thought of the good words that his aunt Carol used to say, and there he decided to give his life to Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior.

Ssengoba Continues Learning

Carol stayed there for him and she became His Mum and Dad, yet his real parents were still on earth but he didn’t get a chance to enjoy life with them.

Carol continued paying his school fees from primary one up to primary seven and Ssengoba completed his primary level of studies.

After that she didn’t get tired of him- she took him to high school and he started his senior one year in a school called Insula Christian High School in Rakai district along Mutukula road near the border of Uganda and Tanzania. There he studied from that year to senior three.

Carol Enters Gods Kingdom

After he started his fourth year as a senior, his aunt Carol got in an accident when she was coming home from the city of Kampala to his town Masaka.

She was so badly injured that he chose to drop out of school to take care of her, but unfortunately after a few months his aunt Carol had passed on.

Ssengoba was hurt deeply because she was the one that taught him about god, kindness, and how to make his life useful. Without her he couldn’t continue with his studies. Her relatives came and took all of her things from her house so he started to sleep at his aunt Carol’s church.

Fortunately the church showed him compassion because they had known him a long time and they supported him with food and fees so he was able to complete high school. Ssengoba Stephen thanks God for the Angel Carol who became vital to his life and even though she has passed away, he’s sure that she’s with Jesus Christ in heaven and in the chest of Abraham.
